Description
This beautiful example of the American Bison, also called the buffalo once roamed the great plains in such vast numbers that the herds stretched tens of miles in every direction. The railroad put a bounty on the buffalo in the late 1800's and almost completely wiped them off the face of the earth. Luckily a few were spared and now there are thriving herds all over parts of the plains. I took this photo at the wildlife reserve at Mt Scott, Oklahoma in the early fall. The countryside was dry and parched from the drought so these magnificant beasts were easy to locate. They are very easily angered and you really do not want to see what a charging bull looks like.
